13 TELECOM FRAUD SUSPECTS RETURN TO CHINA FROM MYANMAR

KUNMING, China Thirteen suspects in telecommunications fraud cases were brought back to Kunming, the capital of Yunnan Province, from Myanmar on Sunday, Xinhua news agency reported.

Police said the suspects were linked to more than 30 cases of fraud, involving over one million yuan (about US$153,000).

Kunming police launched an investigation after receiving a tip-off that a telecomunications fraud gang was operating in Myanmar.

On June 20, Kunming police and Myanmar police arrested the suspects and seized more than 100 mobile phones, 10 computers and over 900,000 yuan from five locations.

The suspects were believed to have extorted money from victims in China on the pretext of providing loans by sending text messages and setting up fake bank websites.-
