The Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang (KMJG) 2023 convoy today completed its tour of over 1,500 kilometres (km) across the peninsula.
Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya (WPKLP) KMJG convoy leader Lim Ann Tek said a total of 26 high-powered motorcycles from Kuala Lumpur managed to complete the 65 km distance with their last stop at Dataran Putra, Putrajaya thus ending the 2023 KMJG’s 1,533 km journey.
“The 2023 KMJG celebration which started in Ipoh, Perak on July 16 was launched by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof. This year, KMJG brings a difference in that it is represented by a convoy group in each respective state to cover the entire country,” he told Bernama here.
He said the WPKLP KMJG which rode in convoy for two days starting yesterday was also joined by the Civil Defence Force, the Youth and Sports Department, the Communications and Multimedia Commission, the National Film Development Corporation, Pos Malaysia, the Road Transport Department, the Royal Malaysia Police and the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama).
He said the 2023 KMJG was also different as it involves the states of Sabah, Sarawak, Labuan covering 66 checkpoints over there and 66 in the peninsula.
Lim said the number 66 was symbolic of the 66th National Day celebration this year.
Earlier, WPKLP KMJG was at Dataran Merdeka and Kampung Malaysia Tambahan, Kuala Lumpur to distribute the Jalur Gemilang to the public.
On Aug 8, the Sarawak-level KMJG convoy will continue a series of tours that will start at the Sarawak Information Department up to Bandar Sipitang, Sabah and is scheduled to end on Aug 15.
Meanwhile, BMW K16 Motorcycle group leader Mohd Yusni Ismail, 47, said the group’s involvement in the WPKLP KMJG is to contribute to Malaysia as well as express love for the country.
“This is the second time we participated in the KMJG programme, today we are here with 26 motorcycles, God willing, on National Day there will be 66 of us,” he said.
BMW K16 Motorcycle group member M. Sureshkumar said his purpose in participating in the programme was to educate young Malaysians about the meaning of independence.
“The effort may seem small, but the memory embedded in their thoughts like waving the Jalur Gemilang and riding the motorcycle will be remembered forever. Maybe with our efforts today we can make them the next BMW K16 group one day,” he said.
