The 2023 Economic Census conducted this year will cover 48,085 associations in Pahang.

Chief statistician Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin expressed hope that all business associations would cooperate with census officials from the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) in the implementation of the census.

“The economic census covers all business and non-profit associations in Malaysia, in all economic sectors, including farming, manufacturing, construction, mining, quarrying and service sector.

“It is the first census to cover all economic activities in the same reference year (2022) and is different from previous economic census, as wholesale and retail trade will be covered, something that was done separately previously,” he said in a statement here today.

The census is conducted under the Statistics Act 1965 and Section 5 of the Act states that whatever association operating in Malaysia should provide correct data or best estimates to the department.

Mohd Uzir said the 2023 Economic Census is the fifth census conducted every five years, the last done in 2016.

It was scheduled for 2021, but postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
