Globally, the number of weekly cases remained stable during the week of 12-18th Dec compared to the week before. While cases continue to decline in the WHO South-East Asian region in the same period (-36%) the Western Pacific Region has seen a 8% increase. Some countries with a notable increase in new cases are the republic of Korea, Japan, and China (WHO).
Omicron is the dominant variant of concern, accounting for nearly all of the publicly shared sequences. Among Omicron sublineages, BA.5 and descendant lineages are dominating, though their prevalence is decreasing. Nationally, about 2 million cases and 29,000 deaths have so far been reported. By 4th December 2022, the weekly average Test Positivity rate decreased to 0.7% from 0.8% last week. In Cox’s Bazar, cases decreased among the FDMN/Rohingya Refugee, with 02 confirmed cases reported in the period (weeks 47-48) with a TPR of 0.2% from 0.6% of the previous reporting period (06 cases). In the host community also a noticeable decrease in TPR was observed in this reporting period with a TPR of 0.8% from 1.8% in the preceding reporting period (weeks 45-46). The testing rate remained at less than 1 test/1000 people/week for both Host and FDMN/Rohingya Refugee1 communities.
In Cox’s Bazar refugee camps, 90% of the target population (≥12 years) completed their full doses of the COVID-19 vaccine and 86% of the eligible population ≥12 years have received a booster dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
