World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur (WTCKL) group managing director Datuk Seri Dr Irmohizam Ibrahim has been appointed as the Pro-Chancellor I of Universiti Geomatika Malaysia (UGM) for a two-year term, effective Aug 7.
WTCKL said the appointment was in line with the university’s constitution under the Private Higher Education Institution 1996 (Act 555) Section 5.2 and Irmohizam is the youngest Pro-Chancellor 1 that UGM has ever appointed.
“The appointment is a testament to Datuk Seri Dr Irmohizam Ibrahim’s outstanding impact and contribution to the development of the business event (BE) industry as well as his contributions to academia in Malaysia,” WTCKL said in a statement.
“Datuk Seri Dr Irmohizam Ibrahim is the first Malaysian to be appointed as the chair of Conferences and Exhibitions, Member Advisory Council World Trade Centres Association which is headquartered in New York,” the statement read.
Irmohizam, who is also the Adjunct Professor at Taylor’s University’s School of Hospitality, Tourism and Events (SHTE) and is in the midst of completing his third Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Management and Administration in Defence with a research module at the Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia (UPNM).
Meanwhile, Irmohizam in the same statement, said he will strive to contribute to UGM so that the university will have a learning environment which not only conveys knowledge but also fosters critical thinking, creativity and compassion for the progress of society.
“I will focus to foster an environment of excellence and innovation in education, research and community engagement. Together with the esteemed faculty, staff and students of UGM, we will strive to strengthen the academic programme and promote a culture of inclusion and diversity,” he said.
