MCMC WINS INTERNATIONAL RECOGNITION AT GEOSPATIAL WORLD EXCELLENCE AWARDS 2024

PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) won an award in the telecommunications category for Communications Infrastructure Permit Management (CIPM) System at the Geospatial World Excellence Awards 2024 in Rotterdam, the Netherlands recently.

In a statement today, MCMC said the achievement proves Malaysia’s ability as a leader in technological innovation as well as setting a new benchmark for the global telecommunications industry.

“The achievement received at the Geospatial World Excellence Awards proves MCMC’s commitment in driving progress and excellence through digitisation and innovation,” said the statement.

The four-day Geospatial World Forum, which began on May 13, recognises and celebrates global advances in geospatial technology that highlight the innovative use of location-related data.

According to MCMC, CIPM is a permit management process solution application developed by the commission to give a significant impact on local authorities (PBT) and telecommunicatio
ns industry players.

‘This pilot system manages over 31,000 mobile communication structures throughout Malaysia and is now actively used by more than 1,300 users from 110 PBT and telecommunications industry players.” said the statement.

CIPM has transformed the telecommunications industry by eliminating inefficiencies, bureaucratic hurdles and the conventional, time-consuming process of approving permits.

‘CIPM has contributed to significant reduction of the approval process from 90 days to only 14 days,” said the statement.

The statement also said CIPM handles more than 16,000 permit transactions annually and generates an income of RM31 million for PBT.

“This innovative system not only improves operational effectiveness but also increases the level of regulatory compliance by industry players,” it added.
