Myanmar Exports Over 132,000 Tonnes Of Black Grams In Less Than Three Months

Myanmar exported more than 132,938 tonnes of black grams within the first three months of the 2023-24 fiscal year, according to the country’s Ministry of Commerce, yesterday.

From Apr 1 to Jun 23 this year, the country earned over 111.03 million U.S. dollars from the exports of black grams, the ministry’s figures showed. Myanmar’s total exports of beans and pulses, including black grams, reached over 394,891 tonnes during the period, its figures showed.

Black grams are grown during the winter season and harvested between Mar and Apr.

Myanmar annually produces more than 500,000 tonnes of black grams, and about 85 percent of the total production is exported to countries including India, China, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Japan and the Philippines.

The country exported more than 1.91 million tonnes of beans and pulses, including over 649,940 tonnes of black grams, in the 2022-23 fiscal year, the ministry’s figures showed.

Beans and pulses are Myanmar’s second-most cultivated crops after rice, accounting for 33 percent of the country’s total agricultural production
