YANGON, Myanmar A northern district court in Myanmar’s Yangon on Monday sentenced two Reuters journalists to seven years in prison.

Wa Lone, 32, and Kyaw Soe Oo, 28, were jailed by the Insein Court for violation of the Official Secrets Act after being held for more than eight months.

According to Xinhua news agency, the journalists were arrested in December last year on a charge of obtaining data on Rakhine state and secret documents on security from the police, according to the Home Ministry.

The Foreign Correspondents Club of Myanmar has called for the immediate release of the journalists and review of the case on appeal.
