YANGON– A massive fire has destroyed an iconic luxury hotel in Myanmar’s capital Yangon, and killed one person.
Two others were injured in the blaze which began around 03:00 (20:30 GMT Wednesday) at the Kandawgyi Palace, reported the BBC.
The huge fire broke out on Thursday morning (Oct 19) at a five-star lakeside hotel popular with foreigners in Myanmar’s biggest city Yangon.
Firefighters said a male victim died in the pre-dawn blaze at the Kandawgyi Palace Hotel.
They were seen carrying a body bag out of the luxury teakwood hotel, which was nearly destroyed by the fire.
At least one firefighter suffered from smoke inhalation, the report said.
According to the report, the upper floors of the hotel were razed by the fire, which had also spread to the cement ground and first floors.
