KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia — A meeting to coordinate the strategy of ASEAN and international non-governmental organisations on the oppression of Rohingnya will be held on October 2 and 3 at the International Youth Centre (IYC) here.
The meeting organised by the Malaysian Consultative Council for Islamic Organisation (MAPIM), the Malaysian Youth Council and IYC will draft up an action plan to combat the oppression faced by ethnic Rohingyas by the Myanmar government.
MAPIM president Mohd Azmi Abdul Hamid said the conference would involve 100 local NGOs in various fields, 20 regional NGOs as well as agencies of the United Nations, Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Asian Youth Council and ASEAN.
“The agenda involved updating information and latest developments in Arakan, Myanmar and Bangladesh, crisis analysis, sharing of NGO experience and advocation of the issue.
“They will also discuss the action strategy such as lobby efforts, humanitarian missions, mass mobilisation, international pressure as well as legal actions, he said at a media conference today.
