Two Killed, 21 Injured In Truck Accident In Myanmar’s Capital

YANGON, Myanmar, Two people have been killed on the spot, with 21 others injured, in a truck accident in Myanmar’s capital, Nay Pyi Taw, said a release from the Home Affairs Ministry today (Thursday).

The accident took place in Zeya Thiri township, on Tuesday afternoon, the final day of the Thingyan water festival.

With 24 passengers aboard, a truck travelling to celebrate Thingyan water festival Tuesday, crashed into a lamp post and overturned on Thantaman road.

The injured were brought to the Nay Pyi Taw General Hospital.

The township police charged the truck driver for negligent driving.

Myanmar’s traditional Thingyan water festival was celebrated nationwide from April 13 to 16.

During the festival, four deaths and 42 injuries, in connection with 20 traffic accidents, were registered on Myanmar’s Yangon-Mandalay highway, according to the Highway Police Force.
