6 carmakers to recall over 36,000 vehicles for faulty parts

Kia Corp., Porsche Korea, Renault Korea and three other carmakers will voluntarily recall more than 36,000 vehicles due to faulty components, the transport ministry said Thursday.

The six companies, also including Toyota Motor Korea, GM Korea and Hyundai Motor, will voluntarily recall 36,897 units of 17 different models, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport said in a statement.

The problems that prompted the recall include poor durability of the hydraulic electronic control unit in 19,291 units of Kia’s Forte model and an error in the driving assistance system software in 3,087 units of Porsche vehicles, including the Cayenne model.

Also, 1,830 units of Renault Korea’s Master van model are subject to measures due to a luminosity issue with the auxiliary turn light. The ministry said 524 units of Toyota models, including the Avalon Hybrid, were found to have defects in the sensor circuit board for the front passenger seat.

In addition, 159 units of GM’s Traverse SUVs and 110 units of Hyundai
Porter 2 trucks are subject to recalls due to defects in vehicle reflectors and high-pressure engine pumps, respectively.
