A UN’s Senior Official Says Cambodia is a Model Nation for the World

Visiting H.E. Atul Khare, Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations for Operational Support, this morning said that Cambodia is a model nation that has transformed from a country that used to receive UN peacekeeping forces to a country that has contributed forces for peace in many countries.

The commendation was made when he paid a courtesy call on Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, at the Peace Palace in Phnom Penh.

In the meeting, H.E. Atul Khare said he had noticed many Cambodia’s contributions for the world peace, and expressed his support for Cambodia, which will host the Fifth Review Conference of the Mine Ban Treaty: Siem Reap Angkor Summit on a Mine-Free World in November 2024.

The UN under-secretary-general also praised Cambodia’s rapid development and congratulated the Kingdom on the preparation for the Least Developed Countries (LDC) graduation in the near future.

In response, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet thanked the UN for its contribution to
the socio-economic development of Cambodia, as well as for the support for Cambodia’s peacekeeping forces under the UN umbrella.
