Azerbaijan boasts notable growth in transit shipments with China since early 2024


BAKU: Transit shipments between Azerbaijan and China have increased significantly, Executive Director of the Azerbaijan Export and Investment Promotion Agency (AZPROMO) Yusif Abdulayev said, Trend reports.

He made the remark during a conference on promoting logistics and trade in Azerbaijan – a demonstration zone of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

Abdullayev emphasized that Azerbaijan’s location at the crossroads of Europe and Asia is strategically important, especially in transit logistics.

“Transit shipments between Azerbaijan and China amounted to 178,000 tons in 2024, which is 31 percent higher compared to the previous year. Specifically, rail transport increased by 93 percent,” he explained.

According to him, Azerbaijan and China have strategic relations that differ from those of two to three years ago.

“These relations create opportunities to enhance cooperation across almost all spheres of interaction between the countries. This includes trade, economic, cultural, and tourism ties.

e have joint projects with our partners, including events, exhibitions, and forums organized in collaboration with various organizations. These events are supported by both states and will certainly continue from our side,” he added.

To note, on July 2, Azerbaijan and China sealed the deal on a Memorandum of Understanding that will grease the wheels for transportation volumes along the Middle Corridor linking the container rail freight transportation networks of China and the European Union countries through Central Asia, the Caucasus, Trkiye, and Eastern Europe.
