BAKU: The fifth meeting of the Organizing Committee in connection with the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) was held on July 8, Trend reports.

According to the information, the Head of the Administration of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Chairman of the Organizing Committee Samir Nuriyev noted that the process of preparation for COP29 is under constant control of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev.

The chairman of the organizing committee noted that in the “Karabakh Declaration” adopted at the summit in Shusha, the brotherly Turkic states supported Azerbaijan’s consistent efforts to achieve real results at COP29.

The Head of the Presidential Administration also noted that the final text of the “host country” agreement to be signed between the Government of Azerbaijan and the Secretariat of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change will be ready shortly, taking into account the conclusions of the re
levant state structures.

According to him, after the Bonn Climate Conference held on June 3-13, 2024, Azerbaijan entered the active phase of chairmanship of COP29.

Speaking about Azerbaijan’s priorities at COP29, Samir Nuriyev noted that a preliminary list of proposals consisting of 14 initiatives has been prepared based on the proposals of various state structures, as well as intensive discussions with the UN and other international organizations. The COP29 thematic days have already been divided by agreement with the UN.

Referring to Azerbaijan’s openness to cooperation in the struggle against climate change with states, non-governmental organizations and think tanks, he stressed that the work on the establishment of the International Advisory Committee of COP29, consisting of several influential foreign representatives, is being completed.

Then Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources, COP29 President-designate Mukhtar Babayev made a report on the general progress of preparations for COP29, results of
the Bonn Climate Conference, and foreign visits of the COP29 team.

Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan Anar Alakbarov informed about the activities carried out in the organizational and logistical sphere in preparation for COP29, including the work started on the construction of infrastructure at the Baku Olympic Stadium.

Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov spoke on general substantive issues, negotiations on a new climate finance target at the Bonn Climate Conference, the COP29 Presidency Agenda, and initiatives.

Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan – Head of the Foreign Policy Department of the Presidential Administration Hikmet Hajiyev talked about communication issues, including work with foreign media.

Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsperson) Sabina Aliyeva informed about the conducted and planned activities within COP29.

Minister of Emergency Situations Kamaladdin Heydarov made a speech on measures taken in the field of fire and technical safety.

Deputy Chairman of the Food Safety Agency Zakiya Mustafayeva talked about the organization of public catering services and control measures taken in this direction.

Director of DOST Inclusive Development and Creation Center Limited Liability Company Nigar Mammadova informed about the work done in connection with COP29 by DOST Inclusive.

At the end of the meeting, instructions were given on the implementation of the COP29 action plan and other relevant issues
