BELANTEK ASSEMBLYMAN MOHD ISA LAID TO REST

Belantek assemblyman Datuk Mohd Isa Shafie, who died last night, was laid to rest at the Kampung Jering Muslim Cemetery, Chepir near here, at 11.30 am today.

Earlier, Mohd Isa’s remains arrived at his residence in Kampung Jelutong here at 2 am from the Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital in Sungai Petani before being taken to a surau in Kampung Jering for funeral prayers.

Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor and his wife Tok Puan Jusmalailani Jusof were among those present to pay their respects.

Mohd Isa’s youngest daughter Ameeratul Akmar, 32, said her father, who had a fever on May 3, was rushed to the Sik Hospital the next day after falling in a bathroom.

“We were then told that he was in a critical condition and needed to be put on a ventilator and sent to Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital. The doctor told us yesterday that there was only a 50-50 chance that he could survive.

“We arrived home at 9.30pm yesterday and were informed that his condition was becoming critical. We rushed back to the hospital but arrived two minutes after he breathed his last,” she said when met by Bernama, here, today.

Muhammad Sanusi posted the news of Mohd Isa’s death on his Facebook page last night.

“I received news that Datuk (Isa) died at about 11.23pm at the Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital in Sungai Petani. Condolences to all his family members,” he said.

Previously, the media reported that Isa, who was also a Kedah PAS committee member, received treatment at the HSAH intensive care unit after suffering from a bacterial infection in the heart, lungs, and kidneys last month.

Mohd Isa leaves behind a wife and five children.
