BURSA MALAYSIA HIGHER AT MIDDAY ON POSITIVE WALL STREET PERFORMANCE


KUALA LUMPUR, Bursa Malaysia closed the morning session higher, buoyed by a risk-on sentiment following a rebound in Wall Street’s performance overnight.

At 12.30 pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) gained 8.46 points to 1,630.53 from Monday’s close of 1,622.07.

The index opened 3.16 points higher at 1,625.23 and fluctuated between 1,625.23 and 1,630.88 during the morning session.

In the broader market, gainers outpaced losers 630 to 385, while 460 counters remained unchanged, 996 untraded, and 16 suspended.

Total turnover amounted to 2.53 billion units valued at RM1.66 billion.

Malacca Securities Sdn Bhd said that Wall Street’s overnight rebound is expected to bolster buying support in local stocks, particularly in the technology sector.

“Meanwhile, we anticipate bargain-hunting activities in the construction, utilities, building materials, and property sectors, driven by the recent data centre catalysts during this healthy consolidation phase.

“We also favour selected stocks in the packaging
and shipping sectors,” the firm said in a note today.

Among the heavyweights, Maybank added 2.0 sen to RM10.08, CIMB Group rose 9.0 sen to RM7.21, and IHH Healthcare gained 4.0 sen to RM6.30.

Meanwhile, Tenaga Nasional and Public Bank were unchanged at RM14.44 and RM4.19, respectively.

Among the actives, new debut Well Chip Group rose 56.0 sen to RM1.71, Velocity Capital Partner and Hubline Bhd edged up 1.0 sen each to 6.5 sen and 11.5 sen, respectively, and Velesto Energy increased half-a-sen to 23.5 sen.

Sapura Energy was unchanged at 4.0 sen.

On the index board, the FBM Emas Index jumped 81.35 points to 12,628.86, the FBMT 100 Index expanded 76.35 points to 12,203.62, and the FBM Emas Shariah Index bounced 87.26 points to 12,994.85, and the FBM 70 Index gained 165.19 points to 18,842.78 and the FBM ACE Index increased 31.43 points to 5,922.35.

Sector-wise, the Financial Services Index ticked up 58.75 points to 17,959.57, the Industrial Products and Services Index edged up 1.48 points to 196.43, and t
he Energy Index rose 9.78 points to 971.84.

Meanwhile, the Plantation Index decreased 8.78 points to 7,199.60.
