Cambodia, a Most Popular Destination for New Colombo Plan Students

Cambodia is one of the most popular destinations for New Colombo Plan students, said the Australian Embassy in Phnom Penh in a news release this morning.

According to the embassy, the Australian Government is supporting Australian undergraduates through the New Colombo Plan to study and undertake internships in the region, with the programme aiming to lift knowledge of the Indo Pacific in Australia.

“We are pleased that Cambodia is one of the most popular destinations for New Colombo Plan students,” it underlined.

A group of Australian students who are currently pursuing internships under the New Colombo Plan programme have recently come to Cambodia, said the source, adding that the students are supporting curriculum development at a primary school in Battambang province and exploring strategies for linking primary education with primary health care.

During the Third Senior Officials’ Talks between Cambodia and Australia held in Canberra, Australia in May 2022, both sides agreed to continue to promote people-to-people connectivity through the New Colombo Plan and Australian Volunteers Programme which enhance mutual understanding and exchange of experiences. Acknowledging that Cambodia is a popular destination for Australian students to do internships, and that Australia is a popular destination for Cambodian students to pursue their studies, both sides agreed to further encourage these trends.
