Cambodia, ROK’s Gyeongsangbuk-do to Further Deepen Cooperation

Cambodia and Gyeongsangbuk-do province of the Republic of Korea will further strengthen and broaden their cooperation, mainly in the areas of investment, tourism and people-to-people connectivity, vocational training, and health.

This was the spirit of the meeting between Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, and visiting H.E. Lee Cheol-woo, Governor of Gyeongsangbuk-do, at the Peace Palace here this morning.

The Korean side also agreed to share successful experiences in the implementation of New Village Project (Saemaul Undong) in Korea with Cambodia.

H.E. Lee Cheol-woo praised the elevation of Korea-Cambodia relations to a “strategic partnership”, which reflects more clearly the close ties and cooperation between the two countries. He thanked the Royal Government of Cambodia for its good cooperation and coordination, especially for the humanitarian activities of the provincial delegation in Cambodia, as well as the organisation of the Angkor-Gyeongju World Cu
lture Expo in Siem Reap province in 2006.

For his part, Samdech Thipadei expressed thanks to the Korean government and people, especially Gyeongsangbuk-do, for their contribution to humanitarian activities, such as providing free medical care to Cambodians, and spoke highly the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Gyeongsangbuk-do and Kampong Thom province recently.

Besides, the Premier outlined the Royal Government’s policies and mechanisms to create a conducive environment for investment in Cambodia, and encouraged the governor to continue to promote Cambodia’s economic and investment potential.
