Cambodia is going to beat gongs and drums across the country on Aug. 5, 2024 at 09:09 am to congratulate the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of Funan Techo Canal.

According to a government’s directive AKP received this evening, all ministries and institutions, both at the national and sub-national level, public and private institutions, pagodas, public and private schools, and the general public are advised to ring bells and beat gongs and drums together at the same time at 09:09 am on Aug. 5 to cheer this historical event.

The Ministry of Information is asked to instruct all public and private media institutions to widely disseminate the benefits of Funan Techo Canal Project as well as any congratulatory shows related to the upcoming event.

According to the project’s feasibility study, the US$1.7 billion and Funan Techo Canal project is 180 kilometres long and 100 metres wide upstream and 80 metres d
ownstream with two navigation lanes. The construction would take around four years to complete.

The canal will link Prek Takeo of Mekong River to the sea in Kep province crossing four provinces: Kandal, Takeo, Kampot and Kep with a total of 1.6 million people living on either side of the waterway.

The Funan Techo Canal project has very little impact, while the economic analysis and evaluation show that it will provide great benefits for the areas of trade, tourism, urban planning and construction etc.
