Cambodia, U.S. Trade Increases by 7 Percent in January

The bilateral trade between Cambodia and the U.S. reached US$626 million in January 2024, a year-on-year increase of 7.74 percent, according to a Ministry of Commerce’s report.

The figures were mentioned in a meeting held here on Feb. 29 between H.E. Boun Sarakmony, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Commerce and a visiting US-ASEAN Business Council delegation composed of representatives from 17 large U.S. companies.

In the meeting, H.E. Boun Sarakmony noted the proposal made by the council members and informed them about the Ministry of Commerce’s new policies and ongoing efforts to support the business community in Cambodia, such as the launch of the CCF (Consumer Protection Competition and Fraud Repression Directorate-General) mobile app for consumer protection and the call centre for public access to the ministry’s services.

Both sides discussed the strengthening of bilateral trade relations between Cambodia and the U.S., and investment and business opportunities in the Kingdom for the U.S. compani
es.

In addition, the meeting touched on their continued collaboration to support each other for the great benefit of trade and investment relations between the two countries.

Those 17 companies include Abbott, ADM, Chevron, ConocoPhillips, Estée Lauder Companies, FedEx Express, Ford, Jhpiego, Manulife, Mastercard, Meta, Pfizer, Philip Morris International, RMA Group, Roche, Tilleke and Gibbins, and Visa.

Figures from the General Department of Customs and Excise showed that the Kingdom exported US$8,897 million worth of goods to the U.S. in 2023, inched down 0.8 percent compared to the figure in 2022.
