Cambodia Underscores Information Security Priority at Asia Media Summit

Cambodia’s Minister of Information has called on regional attention to prioritise strengthening information security, particularly in the context of the digital age and artificial intelligence (AI).

H.E. Neth Pheaktra highlighted the priority when addressing the opening of the 19th Asia Media Summit organised by the Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on Sept. 3.

A joint effort among AIBD member countries and others to secure information dissemination is vital in building public trust and resilience to fake news, he said.

The minister added that rapid digitalisation and the emerging fallouts of AI have doubled up fake news and disinformation.

He also highlighted the ongoing endeavour of the Royal Government of Cambodia in addressing the threat, including the establishment of the Anti-Fake News Committee and the Commission for the Control of Fake News and the recent promulgation of the Journalism Professional Charter.

The move aims to set ethical standard
s for journalists and content creators to support press freedom while ensuring accountability and quality of the information dissemination.
