Cambodian Delegation Attends First Forum on ‘Southeast Asian Women Ambassador for Peace’

A Cambodian delegation led by H.E. Ms. Koung Sorita, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Women’s Affairs and Chair of the ASEAN Council on Women for Peace and Security, attended the first and historic forum on “Southeast Asian Women Ambassadors for Peace”, an accompanying forum of the Annual ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting.

The forum, taking place in Vientiane, Laos from July 27 to 29, 2024, attracted the participation of 40 ministers and ambassadors.

The purpose of the three-day event was to foster collaboration between ambassadors: establishing a foundation for relationships among Southeast Asian women ambassadors, and foster collaboration and explore opportunities for joint initiatives to address global challenges by cultivating a network of empowered women diplomats.

The forum was also aimed to enhance preventive diplomacy and conflict resolution strategies: delving into the multifaceted nature of preventive diplomacy and conflict prevention strategies in the ASEAN region, and advance implementatio
n of national and regional WPS commitments through mediation and negotiation practices: emphasising challenges and effective mediation/negotiation approaches within the context of WPS.
