(CES) SK Group’s tech-savvy theme park pictures carbon-free future

At the center of the Las Vegas Convention Center, the main venue of the annual tech show CES 2024 in Las Vegas, SK Group’s “Wonderland” theme park has become a unique attraction, captivating business professionals, media and tech enthusiasts alike.

Spread across 1,850 square meters, this amusement park offers a glimpse into SK Group’s commitment to green technologies and AI-powered products for a net-zero future.

“Wonderland” is part of such tech exhibits by the South Korean energy-to-telecom conglomerate SK Group to give a clear shape of its green technologies and AI-powered products for a net-zero future.

In collaboration with seven affiliates of SK Group, including SK Inc., SK hynix Inc., SK Innovation and SK Telecom Co., “Wonderland” transforms the conventional tech exhibit into a playground for innovation.

From high bandwidth memory (HBM) semiconductors to electric vehicle batteries, urban air mobility (UAM), small modular reactors (SMR), hydrogen energy ecosystems, plastic recycling, and carbon cap
ture, utilization, and storage (CCUS), each affiliate contributes to eye-catching attractions.

Upon entry, visitors receive an eco-friendly ticket made of biodegradable LIMEX, an up-and-coming substitute for plastic and paper.

At the park’s center is a large spherical LED display reminiscent of the Las Vegas landmark Sphere, projecting a video envisioning a clean, pollution-free future with reduced carbon.

The park is divided into five zones, each offering a distinct experience.

“Train Adventure” showcases a renewable energy-powered train, providing insights into SK companies’ hydrogen ecosystem. The journey, which includes a video inside a 15-meter media tunnel, continues with a focus on clean energy projects, including CCUS and next-gen energy sources.

After the 15-minute train ride, visitors get aware of SK companies’ clean energy projects, including CCUS, next-generation energy source SMR, energy solution business to support the intermittent power produced by renewable energy, and substructures for o
ff-shore wind power.

In the “AI Fortuneteller” zone, SK hynix’s high-performance AI chips drive an interactive experience, reading fortunes and drawing cards with synthesized faces.

The “Dancing Car” zone features an innovative vehicle hanging from a robot arm, highlighting SK Group’s eco-friendly EV technologies.

This zone features various aspects of EV technology, including EV batteries, high-speed chargers, battery recycling and core materials for next-generation batteries, such as cobalt-free and silicon anode materials that can significantly reduce charging time.

For a thrilling experience, visitors can ride the “Magic Carpet” in the UAM zone, simulating carbon-free urban air mobility over skyscrapers.

The “Rainbow Tube” in the final zone illustrates the recycling of colorful plastic waste, showcasing SK Group’s commitment to a three-stage global recycling ecosystem.

SK Group, which has South Korea’s leading oil refinery SK Innovation under its wing, is on its way to complete a three-stage recyclin
g ecosystem on a global level — chemical recycling, thermal decomposition and high-purity polypropylene (PP) extraction.

“Wonderland” is a model of SK Group’s future vision for carbon neutrality. SK Group said its member companies have been developing various carbon reduction technologies and solutions as the group has set “net zero” as new growth momentum in the era of energy transition.

It is a part of SK Group’s announcement made last year at CES that it plans to reduce 200 million tons of carbon emissions by 2030, equivalent to 1 percent of the global carbon emissions reduction goal set by the International Energy Agency.
