FM Cho to attend G20 foreign ministers’ meeting in Brazil next week

Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yul will travel to Brazil next week to attend a meeting of the top diplomats of the Group of 20 (G20) developed countries, his office said Friday.

The G20 foreign ministers’ meeting will take place in Rio de Janeiro from Wednesday to Thursday and will be the first multilateral talks that Cho will participate in since he took office last month.

The top diplomats of 21 member states and guest countries, as well as the representatives of international organizations, will take part to discuss a range of issues like the G20’s role amid geopolitical challenges and global governance, his office said.

The G20 members comprise 19 countries, the European Union and the African Union.

Cho is expected to hold separate bilateral talks with some of his counterparts from the other G20 member states.

Brazil is the rotating chair country for this year’s G20 meetings. Next week’s gathering is the first ministerial-level meeting to be held at the G20 forum.
