Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yul is set to visit New York this week to attend a United Nations Security Council (UNSC) briefing, his office said Friday.

Cho is expected to stress Seoul’s contribution to international peace efforts at the UNSC briefing to be held late Friday (New York time) to commemorate the two-year anniversary of the war in Ukraine, the ministry told reporters.

The meeting will mark the first official UNSC meeting to be attended by the minister since South Korea began a two-year term as a nonpermanent member this year.

He will also meet with U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to discuss Seoul’s plans and upcoming activities at the UNSC, according to the ministry.

On Monday, Cho will visit Washington for talks with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken to discuss bilateral ties and North Korea’s threats.

The talks — scheduled for Wednesday — will mark Cho’s first bilateral meeting with Blinken since he took office last month.

Cho’s trip to the United States comes after he attended
a foreign ministers’ meeting of the Group of 20 nations in Rio de Janeiro earlier this week.

Cho previously served as South Korea’s ambassador to the U.N. from 2016 to 2019.
