HOMEGIRLS SECURE QUARTER-FINAL SPOT IN MIW WORLD CUP

KUALA LUMPUR, The national women’s Mobile Legends Bang-Bang (MLBB) team, HomeGirls Gaimin Gladiators (HomeGirls), have secured a spot in the quarter-finals of the 2024 MIW World Cup e-sports tournament in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, after finishing second in Group C early this morning.

HomeGirls coach Muhammad Farhan Ibrahim, also known as Sora, said that although his players were nervous during their first group stage match, they managed to overcome the issue to qualify for the next round.

‘Some of our players are competing in an international tournament for the first time, and as you know, the e-sport World Cup is a prestigious competition. They may get nervous sometimes, and their communication was messy during the first game.

‘We managed to fix these problems, and they focused on the subsequent matches. For now, I think the players are comfortable with the environment, and we are ready for the next round,’ he said in a video after the final group stage match today.

In the matches held at Amazon Arena, HomeG
irls first faced Chinese team Tidal Legend Gaming and achieved a 1-1 draw in a best-of-two format.

The same script was repeated in their second match against Indonesian World Champions Team Vitality, where the Malaysian team came from behind to win Game 2 after losing Game 1.

HomeGirls’ success in reaching the final round ensures they will finish among the top eight teams and secure at least US$25,000 (RM 116,000) in prize money.
