Johari Extends Condolences Over Death Of Ismail Haniyeh

KUALA LUMPUR,, Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul has conveyed condolences to the people of Palestine over the passing of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh and his bodyguard, who were killed in an Israeli airstrike in Tehran, Iran today.

In a post on X, Johari said the Dewan Rakyat strongly condemns the acts of violence and cruelty.

‘I stand in solidarity with the people of Palestine and pray for an immediate end to the oppression against them,’ he said.

Hamas announced early Wednesday that its political bureau chief Haniyeh was killed in an Israeli airstrike targeting his residence in Tehran, according to international media reports.

Iranian state television also reported Haniyeh’s death, noting that an investigation into the assassination is ongoing and that the results will be announced soon.

No immediate announcement has been made by Israel on the incident.

Haniyeh was in Tehran to attend the inauguration ceremony of the new Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Tuesday (July 30).
