SEREMBAN, The Negeri Sembilan Islamic Religious Council (MAINS) has distributed RM 125,680,105 million in zakat funds collected from January to October, says its chairman, Datuk Seri Dr Abdul Aziz Sheikh Ab Kadir. He said MAINS had distributed the funds towards various categories of asnaf (zakat recipients), including the poor, impoverished, and 'muallaf' (reverts). Speaking at the Corporate Business Zakat Presentation Ceremony here today, Abdul Aziz highlighted additional allocations for hemodialysis, education, and financial and medical aid extended to both asnaf and the wider community in need. During the event, MAINS received contributions totaling RM 1,041,696 from seven corporate entities, including the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN), AGRO Bank, Telekom Malaysia Berhad, MBSB Bank Berhad, Dermaga Sari Holdings Sdn Bhd, Koperasi Permodalan dan Perusahaan Melayu Negeri Sembilan, and Omni Oil Technologies. "Zakat is one of the most important economic facets in the Islamic way of life. Zakat is an obligation for those who are well off and it purifies their wealth,' he said. Expressing satisfaction and gratitude for the corporate entities' commitment to zakat payments, he characterised the ceremony as a meaningful acknowledgement of their contributions. In the meantime, MAINS has provided 12 MAINS zakat collection counters operating daily throughout this month to make it easier for all parties to fulfill their zakat obligations.
