MAXWELL BASECAMP IS NOW SUUNTO REGIONAL GREEN HUB

The Maxwell BaseCamp in Bukit Larut here has been accorded the Suunto Regional Green Hub status, the first in the Southeast Asia region to receive recognition from Suunto Oy.

Tourism Malaysia director-general, Datuk Dr Ammar Abd Ghapar, said that the recognition was received from the global brand from Finland, recently.

“Recreational Outdoor Exchange (R.O.X) has also franchised a showroom, for the first time in its history, to Maxwell BaseCamp management, with the opening of R.O.X. Maxwell BaseCamp.

“The Malaysian Orienteering Sports Association and the Malaysian Orienteering Academy have recognised Maxwell BaseCamp as its global development training centre, since May this year,” he said, when met at the Maxwell Base Camp Conservation Trail launch, in Bukit Larut here, today.

He said that the management hopes the project will enhance Bukit Larut and will attract more visitors to the location and to Taiping town.

Maxwell BaseCamp is an environmental conservation project from the Malaysia Mountain Trail Festival, under the #LoseYourMindDiscoverYourSoul initiative by the MMTF Consultant.

MMTF Consultant is an international sports event management company, based in Taiping, and has been organising the Malaysia Mountain Trail Festival, in collaboration with the Perak Forestry Department, since 2018.

The company started this low-impact environmental development project in August 2022, after receiving official approval from the state government and state Forestry Department.

“The first phase of this low-impact environmental development project has cost approximately RM650,000, and MMTF Consultant has been awarded a grant by Think City under the Cultural Economy Catalytic Grant on Aug 10, 2022, to finance the project,” he said.
