MBOR: DOF Sets Record With 100-metre Tuna Sandwich At MAHA 2024


PUTRAJAYA, The Department of Fisheries (DOF) has made its mark in the Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR) by creating a 100-metre-long tuna sandwich formation, titled ‘100 Years MAHA 2024’.

In a statement today, Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu said this unique sandwich formation, the first of its kind in Malaysia, was accomplished in partnership with the Faculty of Food Science and Technology at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM).

The ‘100 Years MAHA 2024’ tuna sandwich was prepared by UPM students and staff, alongside DOF personnel.

The choice of tuna highlights its nutritional benefits, including high protein content, Omega 3 fatty acids and Vitamins B and D. The sandwiches are being distributed free of charge to visitors at the Fisheries Pavilion during the Malaysian Agriculture, Horticulture, and Agrotourism Exhibition (MAHA) at Malaysia Agro Exposition Park (MAEPS), Serdang.

As part of the 100th edition of MAHA, Mohamad also released 100 indigenous fish representing eight
species worth RM13,000,into the MAEPS lake.

MAHA 2024, themed ‘Harvesting Tomorrow Where Dreams Blossom,’ runs for 12 days starting from Sept 11.

The event aims to attract three million visitors, secure RM6 billion in memoranda of understanding, and achieve RM40 million in direct sales.
