MINI LRA CONSTRUCTION ISSUE RESOLVED, SAYS EXCO

The issue of the construction of five mini water treatment plants (LRAs) without obtaining approval from the National Water Services Commission (SPAN) has been resolved, said the state Public Works, Infrastructure, Transport and Utility Committee chairman Datuk Azami Mohd Nor.

He said the Kelantan government held a meeting with SPAN and there were no more issues related to the matter.

He added that the construction of the mini LRAs involved five areas namely in Ketereh (Kota Bharu), Teluk Mesira (Bachok) Perol (Peringat), Wakaf Bharu (Tumpat) and Meranti Baru (Pasir Mas) through state government allocation amounting to RM70 million.

“Through this allocation, we will build mini LRAs to solve the water supply problem of the people in the areas.

“In the early stages, we did not know that any LRA construction and repair work needed to be approved by SPAN first, as stipulated under Section 45 of the National Water Services Commission Act.

“We thought that when we are using our own allocation, we do not need to report to SPAN. Alhamdulillah, it has been resolved and there are no more issues,” he said.

He said this to reporters after visiting the pipe replacement site in Pasir Tumboh, here today, which was also attended by Air Kelantan Sdn Bhd (AKSB) general manager Dr Nazmi Ghazali Azmi.

Azami said that the construction of the mini LRAs will benefit the people of Kelantan in the areas involved including the Wakaf Bharu mini LRA which will supply water to 12,000 accounts while in Ketereh 5,000 accounts.

Previously Kelantan Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK) member Mohd Afiq Asyraf Mohd Nazi, in a Facebook post, shared six letters related to the construction of mini LRAs in Ketereh, Meranti Baru and Teluk Mesira and questioned the approval issued for the projects.
