Over 7 Tonnes of Illicit Drugs Burned

The National Authority for Combating Drugs (NACD) has burned some 7.35 tonnes of illicit drugs and related substances confiscated between 2022 and early 2024, to mark the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking (June 26).

Organised by NACD in Phnom Penh this morning, the drug destruction ceremony took place under the auspices of H.E. Gen. Meas Virith, Secretary General of NACD.

Addressing the function, H.E. Gen. Meas Virith underlined the Royal Government of Cambodia’s efforts in preventing and cracking down on illicit drug trafficking in the country and in the region.

He encouraged concerned institutions to implement the government’s measures to combat illegal drugs to keep youth and students away from using them.

The drug destruction ceremony aimed to further empower the local authorities and the general public, especially the youth, to take the lead in the fight against illicit drugs in their communities.
