Perak KPDN Seizes 493 Counterfeit Printer Cartridges

The Perak branch of the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) seized 493 suspected counterfeit printer cartridges during a raid on a shop in Jalan Pasir Puteh yesterday.

Its director Datuk Kamaluddin Ismail said that the raid was prompted by complaints from registered trademark representatives and preliminary intelligence gathered by Perak KPDN.

‘Upon further inspection, we discovered 493 cartridges suspected of being falsely trademarked, which constitutes an offence under Section 102 (1) (c) of the Trademarks Act 2019.

‘This raid was conducted in the presence of the trademark owner’s representative, and the investigation revealed that these cartridges were also marketed and sold through e-commerce platforms,’ he said in a statement today.

Kamaluddin added that the total value of the seized items was estimated at RM4,667. In addition to the cartridges, several business documents were also seized for investigation.

‘Perak KPDN arrested a local man who identified himself as the company mana
ger responsible for the premises.

‘We want to remind and warn all parties against selling goods without the proper authorisation or permission from the trademark owner,’ he said.

He said that KPDN takes such cases seriously to protect trademark rights and advises the public to be cautious of traders who seek to profit from counterfeit goods.
