PERNAS OPTIMISTIC BIT PROGRAMME ABLE TO PRODUCE MORE FRANCHISE ENTREPRENEURS

Perbadanan Nasional Berhad (Pernas) is optimistic that its Business In-Transformation (BIT) programme is able to produce more franchise entrepreneurs in micro, small and medium enterprises (PMKS).

Pernas, an agency under the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives (KUSKOP), said in a statement today that the programme had so far produced 1,400 pre-franchise entrepreneurs and provided employment opportunities to over 2,800 individuals.

“This year, Pernas aims to produce 24 pre-franchisors and 48 pre-franchisees through the BIT programme with a funding target of RM2 million, and create 300 new job opportunities.

“To date, a total of RM13.35 million has been channelled to qualified BIT entrepreneurs…since its inception in 2013, a total of 207 companies from various sectors have registered in the programme,” it said.

The statement also said that the BIT programme is designed to transform small and medium enterprises into competitive businesses that can be turned into franchises.

Meanwhile, Langkawi Development Authority (LADA) deputy chief executive officer (management) Ahmad Fuad Che Ani @ Abd Ghani said organising the Mini Business In-Transformation Expo (Mini BITe) 2023 in Langkawi could be the best way to promote the BIT programme to the target group on the island, thus producing more entrepreneurs in the franchise business.

“The organisation of this programme is also in line with the goal of producing more entrepreneurs in Kedah, particularly in Langkawi, which will help spur the state’s economic growth,” he said in the same statement.

According to Ahmad Fuad, LADA provided assistance to Langkawi entrepreneurs through a special initiative under the New Economic Project’s (PEB) HELANG, which benefited 1,505 individuals over a three-year period with a total expenditure of RM826,074.

“The franchise business is the best platform to produce more entrepreneurs in PMKS. This cooperation can assist them in transforming their business so that it can compete with big brands and be expanded globally

“To date, 200 entrepreneurs have registered with LADA in three primary categories, namely beauty and health, souvenirs and crafts, and food/beverages,” he said.

Ahmad Fuad hoped that the organisation of Mini BITe 2023, which is a Pernas and LADA initiative, would assist BIT entrepreneurs in promoting their business models and provide participants with opportunities to venture into entrepreneurship, particularly in the franchise sector.
