BUKIT MERTAJAM, Ustazah Salmah Abu Bakar, 84, former religious teacher to Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, warmly recalls how Malaysia’s 10th Prime Minister exhibited leadership qualities from a tender age.

‘I taught Anwar when he was between 10 and 12 years old at Madrasah Al-Ittihadiah Al-Wataniah Cherok Tok Kun.

‘Anwar showed exceptional leadership potential even at the age of 10. Observing his character and interactions with his peers, I was convinced he had the makings of a future leader,’ she told reporters after Anwar’s visit to her Cherok Tok Kun residence here today.

Ustazah Salmah praised Anwar’s kindness and respect towards others, adding that she had encouraged him to uphold these values and remain steadfast in his faith.

Anwar and his wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, visited Ustazah Salmah’s home at 11.30 am and spent about 20 minutes reconnecting with his former teacher, after attending the Korban Perdana Bersama Perdana Menteri programme Masjid Jamek Cherok Tok Kun.
