PM says S. Korea aims to export US$25 bln worth of content in 2027

SEOUL, Prime Minister Han Duck-soo said Tuesday the government will support the cultural content industry with the aim of exporting US$25 billion worth of content in 2027.

Han made the remark during a meeting of the content industry promotion committee, noting that meeting the goal will make South Korea one of the top four content powers in the world.

The content industry includes sectors such as publishing, music, games, broadcasting, film and animation. According to the culture ministry, the industry’s exports set a record of $13.24 billion in 2022, up 6.3 percent from the previous year’s $12.45 billion.

“The government will make sure to attain $25 billion worth of content exports in 2027 and make the jump to become one of the world’s four biggest content powers,” Han said during the meeting held in Pangyo 2nd Techno Valley in Seongnam, just south of Seoul.

Han outlined several ways in which the government will strive to meet the target, including building a cultural complex to serve as a hub for all co
ntent-related production, distribution and consumption.

Other measures will include providing over 5 trillion won ($3.6 billion) worth of policy financing by 2027 to ease the chronic financial difficulties of the content industry, he said.
