PM to Attend a Marathon in Siem Reap in Late 2024

Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet this morning said he would attend the Angkor Wat International Half Marathon 2024 in Siem Reap province later this year.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of Samdech Preah Brahma Rattanamony Pin Sem Museum in Raja Bo pagoda in Siem Reap provincial city, Samdech Thipadei Prime Minister said he would join this sport event at the end of this year and called on his cabinet members to do so.

‘I will join a 5-kilometre race […],’ he said, recalling his previous participation in a running race in Phnom Penh capital.

Organised since 1996, the Angkor Wat International Half Marathon generally takes place in December at the Angkor Archaeological Park, which is in northern Cambodia, one of the most important archaeological sites in Southeast Asia. Stretching over some 400 square kilometres, including forested areas, Angkor contains the magnificent remains of several capitals of the Khmer Empire, from the 9th to the 15th century CE. This i
ncludes the famous Temple of Angkor Wat and, at Angkor Thom, the Bayon Temple with its countless sculptural decorations.

Some 10,000 runners from around the world are expected to join the competition scheduled to be held this year on Dec. 1.

‘This is one of the activities aimed at attracting international tourists to visit the cultural province of Siem Reap,’ underlined the Cambodian Premier.
