Prices of agricultural products estimated to have fallen this month

The agricultural ministry said Wednesday it assessed that prices of local farm products showed signs of a decline so far in June, compared with a month earlier.

The assessment came as the ministry held a meeting that monitored prices of farm products amid soaring food inflation.

“Following better weather conditions and the increase in the number of suppliers, the prices have generally declined, also led by those produced from greenhouses,” Vice Agricultural Minister Han Hoon said in a statement.

According to ministry data, the average price of napa cabbage fell 4 percent on-month in early June, with those of tomatoes and cucumbers decreasing by 16.8 percent and 9.6 percent, respectively, over the period.

The price of pork went up 6.8 percent on-month in early June, while that of premium “hanwoo” beef and chicken fell 7.2 percent and 1.1 percent, respectively.
