Return of SEA Games and ASEAN Para Games 2023: Key Figures

Cambodia appreciates the return especially in terms of tourism and coverage earned through the country’s hosting of the SEA Games and ASEAN Para Games 2023.

H.E. Vath Chamroeun, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Tourism and Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia (NOCC) shared the note along with key figures in a tourism review meeting on June 21.

According to the Secretary of State, Cambodia received at least 200,000 visitors and 300,000 local spectators during the two regional games

Of the in-flow visitors, 12,404 were sport delegates and over 10,000 were fans coming along with the sport contingents during the games.

The record also included 5,000 Cambodian living overseas and other 50,000 foreign sport lovers.

The games, he added, attracted roughly 550 million views on television, 26 billion views on Tik Tok, and one billion views on Facebook and YouTube.

Though Cambodia spent about US$100 million to organise the games, the listed return was worth the investment, let alone the good memories, friendship, and technical knowledge and skill particularly for Cambodian athletes and event organisers.

The expense was factored in the matching for free-ticket for spectators; free visa, food, and accommodation for participating athletes; and free broadcasting rights for partner regional and international media outlets.
