Rural Development Minister Outlines Goals to World Bank Delegation


PHNOM PENH: The Rural Development Minister of Cambodia, H.E. Chhay Rithisen, briefed the newly appointed Country Manager of the World Bank for Cambodia, Ms. Tania Meyer, on the ministry’s strategic priorities, emphasizing collaboration to bridge the rural-urban divide and enhance household income.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the meeting took place at the minister’s office, where he outlined his ministry’s efforts to transform rural Cambodia. The minister emphasized a focus on prosperity, inclusion, innovation, and resilience across economic, social, and cultural domains. Key strategies include developing resilient infrastructure, improving rural transportation, and enhancing health and hygiene in rural communities.

The minister also highlighted initiatives for rural economic diversification, job innovation, and institutional strengthening through digital, financial, and cooperative policies. He expressed gratitude for the World Bank’s support for current and prospective projects aimed at rural dev
elopment.

Ms. Tania Meyer commended the ministry’s strategic clarity in advancing rural areas and reaffirmed the World Bank’s commitment to bolstering their cooperation to further these goals.
