S. Korea to attend int’l competition enforcers’ annual meeting in U.S.

South Korea will attend an annual summit of international competition enforcers to be held this week in the United States to discuss enforcement priorities and strategies for effective global policy coordination, Seoul’s antitrust regulator said Monday.

The third Enforcers Summit will be held Monday (U.S. time) in Washington, co-hosted by the U.S. Federal Trade Commission and the Justice Department’s Antitrust Division, which will bring together officials from major countries, including Japan, Canada, India and Brazil, according to the Fair Trade Commission (FTC).

FTC Vice Chairperson Cho Hong-sun is scheduled to attend the meeting for talks on ways of promoting fair market competition, better protecting consumers and enforcing data privacy and relevant policies.

“The upcoming meeting will particularly put a focus on competition issues regarding food supply chains amid high inflation,” an FTC official said.

Also on the table will be how to better respond to bid rigging and promote competition in the arti
ficial intelligence sector, he added.

On the sidelines of the summit, Cho plans to hold bilateral talks with his counterparts and officials from the U.S., the European Commission and other partner nations to explore ways to cooperate, according to the FTC.
