South Korea will host a summit with African nations next month to discuss ways to expand cooperation in the economy, energy, digital and other areas, the presidential office said Thursday.

The inaugural Korea-Africa Summit will be held June 4-5 at KINTEX in Ilsan, north of Seoul, and in the capital city.

The gathering is expected to draw delegations from over 45 countries, making it the largest multilateral summit since the Yoon Suk Yeol administration took office in May 2022, according to the office.

“This summit will strengthen political, economic and social ties with African countries, and provide an opportunity to establish comprehensive and practical cooperation in various fields, such as critical minerals, infrastructure, renewable energy, digital, agriculture, health care and tourism,” Principal Deputy National Security Adviser Kim Tae-hyo said during a press briefing.
