Seoul Mayor Oh to embark on trip to UAE for global meeting on fintech

Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon will embark on a trip to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) next week to attend a global meeting on financial technology in Dubai and forge a city-level partnership with Abu Dhabi, city officials said Thursday.

Oh will leave for Dubai on Sunday for the seven-day trip that will also take him to Abu Dhabi, the UAE capital.

On Monday, the mayor will deliver a keynote speech showcasing Seoul as a global hub for economic innovations at the Dubai FinTech Summit at the invitation of the event’s organizer.

The summit, held annually for the second edition, will discuss the latest financial technology innovations under the patronage of UAE Deputy Prime Minister Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

The same day, Oh also plans to visit the Dubai Chamber of Commerce to sign a business cooperation agreement between the chamber and Seoul Invest, a city-run organization to attract foreign investment.

The city expects the agreement to facilitate the opening of a Seoul branch by the Dubai
Chamber of Commerce.

On Wednesday, the mayor will forge a city friendship agreement with Abu Dhabi to facilitate cooperation and exchange on issues like transportation, smart cities and city development.

The next day, he will also tour Abu Dhabi’s Yas Island and Saadiyat Cultural District to learn about the city’s development projects, city officials said.
