SK Group chairman meets with chief executives of OpenAI, Microsoft in U.S.


SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won has met with leaders of global tech giants, including chief executives of OpenAI and Microsoft, as he was on a visit to the United States, according to his social media post Thursday.

Earlier in the day, Chey posted photos of him with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella on social media and wrote he sees “unprecedented opportunities” in the center of the artificial intelligence (AI) boom.

SK Group explained Chey met with Altman at OpenAI’s headquarters to discuss the AI industry and bilateral cooperation, including the Korean company’s high bandwidth memory chips and AI assistant service.

Their latest meeting came five months after the two met in Seoul in January.

Chey also agreed to strengthen cooperation between SK and Microsoft on AI-related technologies from semiconductors, data centers and large language models in his meeting with Nadella, according to his company.

SK said Chey held meetings with OpenAI and Microsoft as part of efforts to expand cooper
ation with global big techs to create an AI service that enables a “better life” for mankind.
