The consultative workshop took place on July 24 here in Phnom Penh under the chairmanship of Minister of Information H.E. Neth Pheaktra.

Addressing the function, the minister underscored that the establishment of the journalism charter aims to ensure the harmonisation and consistency of professional journalism ethics.

It will serve as a common basis to guide professional media practice and ensure information security in Cambodia while supporting the industry to embrace evolving technology, including artificial intelligence (AI).

The minister is positive that the existence of the charter will also help Cambodia address fake news and misinformation and promote public trust in the media in the country.

From there, he added, the media can maintain its respectable role in promoting democracy and the rule of law, as well as national peace and sustainable development.

A total of 40 Cambodian students have been awarded Indian Fully Funded ICCR Scholarships for the Academic Year 2024-2025.

cipients orientation programme was organised at the Embassy of India’s premises in Phnom Penh on July 24 in the presence of Mr. Vijay Shankar Prasad, Second Secretary (Education).

According to the embassy’s press release, the 40 Cambodian students have been selected to pursue higher studies in India for undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD programmes under Indian fully funded ICCR scholarships for the Academic Year 2024-2025 from different prestigious institutes / universities including Indian Institute of Technology (IIT). The courses include Bachelor in Computer science, Engineering, Political science, Mathematics, Architecture, Business Administration, International Relations and Peace Studies, and many monks and scholars also choose Master in Buddhist studies, and also pursue Research programmes in Buddhist studies and philosophy.

In his address, Second Secretary (Education) shared that India is well known for as an education hub attracting international students from all over the world. Studying in Indi
a is a wonderful way to expand your knowledge, see the world, improve your intercultural competencies, and gain valuable experience. He also stated that there are two ways of getting admission in Indian Institutions – one is ‘Self Financing Basis’ and second is fully funded Government scholarship scheme.

Members of the Cambodia India Alumni Association, also gave brief remarks to all ICCR scholarship awardees about their previous experiences and studies in India. They encouraged all recipients to continue putting in more effort in their academic pursuits. They strongly believed that when all students graduated their studies they will be a vital human resource helping to building our country. They also expressed their gratitude to the Government and People of the Republic of India, in particular the Embassy of India, Phnom Penh, which has long supported Cambodia, continues to do so, and-most importantly-offers scholarships to Cambodian students every year.

India has a most advanced infrastructure for higher
education. Indian degrees are treated at par excellence all over the world and professionals who have undertaken higher studies in India have made significant contribution to advanced and applied research in different disciplines all over the world. A number of Indian Institutes for higher studies have come to symbolise academic excellence over these years.

There are three principal qualifying degrees within the Indian higher education system, the Bachelors, Masters and the Doctoral levels. Course duration is normally three, two and three or more years, respectively. Shorter duration diploma courses are also available at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. Quality education at relatively low cost, variety of courses and close cultural ties between Cambodia and India attract students from Cambodia to study in India.

‘The Embassy of India, Phnom Penh continues to endeavour to encourage more and more students to explore higher education opportunities in India,’ said the press release.

The Indian Coun
cil for Cultural Relations (ICCR), an autonomous organisation under Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India offers around 3,900 scholarships every year under 20 different schemes to foreign students from about 190 countries.
