UUM SIGNS COLLABORATION MOUS WITH FOUR INSTITUTIONS OF UZBEKISTAN


SAMARKAND, May 19 (Bernama) – Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) is poised to strengthen its global ties by signing Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) with four institutions of higher education in Uzbekistan on Saturday.

Participating in this significant event are prestigious institutions of higher education in Uzbekistan, namely the Banking and Finance Academy (BFA), Oriental University (OU), Tashkent International University of Financial Management and Technologies (TIFT) and Tashkent State University of Economics (TSUE).

Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mohd Foad Sakdan represented UUM at the signing ceremony, while the Rector of the Banking and Finance Academy (BFA), Dr Khoshimov Elmurod, served as the academy’s representative.

Meanwhile, TSUE was represented by its Rector Prof Teshabayev To’lqin Zakirovich.

The signing ceremony held at the Silk Road Samarkand Complex was witnessed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Uzbekistan Deputy Prime Minister Jamshid Khodjaev.

During the signing ceremony, OU was
represented by Rector Prof Murodjon Ubaydullaevich Akhmedov and TIFT by Rector Azizkhon Nodirov.

Mohd Foad in a statement said the sealing of these memoranda signifies a significant milestone in promoting academic collaboration, exchange, and partnership between UUM and the esteemed Uzbekistani institutions.

He said the collaboration between Othman Yeop Abdullah Graduate School of Business (OYAGSB) and BFA aims to develop a robust global business school presence in Uzbekistan, prioritising enhanced education quality and international cooperation.

‘ Through this partnership, OYAGSB’s Master of Business Management (MBM) programme will transition to the BFA Global MBA, offering Uzbekistan students access to a highly acclaimed curriculum and immersive learning experience. The collaboration targets elevating business education standards by imparting comprehensive knowledge and leadership skills,’ he said.

Subsequently, the UUM School of Quantitative Sciences (SQS) has chosen to strengthen academic ties and bil
ateral relations with TIFT and TSUE.

‘The signing of the MOU, marks a crucial moment in fostering collaboration in academic, research, and publishing fields. In line with this partnership, UUM SQS is set to host an international seminar at TSUE in October 2025, focusing on leveraging quantitative methods for digital age innovations,’ he said.

He said additionally, ongoing initiatives include student and staff exchange programmes and increased matching grants with both universities.

‘ In essence, the partnership between UUM and the prestigious institutions Uzbekistan, signifies a noteworthy advancement in promoting academic excellence and international collaboration. Through the signiing of the MoU, these partnerships demonstrate a mutual dedication to improving education quality, fostering research collaboration, and fostering academic innovation,’ he said.
