Venerable Kou Sopheap to Give a Speech on ‘Transitional Justice’ at ECCC


Venerable Dr. Kou Sopheap, a prominent Buddhist monk in Cambodia, will be an honorary speaker in a penal discussion on “Contextualised Transitional Justice: Exploring the Influence of Faith Traditions on Reconciliation and Memorialisation.”

The panel discussion will take place on Aug. 16, 2024, from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM at the Multifunctional Room (2nd Floor) of the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC) Resource Centre, located at Building No. 40, Russian Federation Blvd, Mittapheap, 7 Makara District, Phnom Penh, an ECCC’s press release made public this afternoon.

This discussion is co-organised by the ECCC and the Southeast Asia University Program (SAUP) of GIZ’s Peacebuilding Partnership, said the source, stressing that the event is expected to host around 50 participants, including professors, researchers, and educators from universities in Cambodia, the Philippines, Germany, and Timor-Leste.

During the discussion, it added, Venerable Dr. Kou Sopheap will deliver a speech on “Transi
tional Justice” within the context of Buddhist beliefs.

The event will also feature representatives from Islam and Christianity who will discuss “Transitional Justice” within their respective religious frameworks, the press release concluded.
