WATER SUPPLY DISRUPTION IN KG GUAL JEDOK, KG GUAL KUBUR ONLY TEMPORARY – AKSB

KOTA BHARU, The water supply disruption in Kampung Gual Jedok and Kampung Gual Kubur in Tanah Merah for the past three months, which affects 200 residents from 40 families, is periodic and temporary, said Syarikat Air Kelantan Sdn Bhd (AKSB).

It said in a statement today that the two villages received water supply from the Batu Gajah Water Treatment Plant (LRA) as well as the gravity water system in Lata Tarung built by the villagers themselves.

The AKSB said among the causes for the disruption of clean water supply to the two villages are the current water demand is higher than the supply; the ratio of loss of treated water is quite high at almost 65 per cent; the use of small main pipes and old asbestos cement-type pipes; and the lack of water supply from the gravity water system in Lata Tarung.

“Among the short-term and long-term measures taken to address the issue in the area is the pipe-replacement package under the Rural and Regional Development Ministry Projects, starting from the Batu Gajah LRA to
the Air Batu Tank, Layang Pepuyu, which involves replacing eight kilometres of pipes.

In addition, the AKSB also plans to upgrade the water supply source at the Batu Gajah LRA from 2.7 million litres per day (MLD) to 12.5 MLD, as well as repair the old treatment plant before building a new LRA with a capacity of 10 MLD.

The AKSB said it would deliver updates on the situation from time to time through its communication channels at www.airkelantan.my, the MyAKSB application, Facebook and Instagram, adding that the public can also contact PINTAS at 15777 for any inquiries and complaints.
