5 carmakers to recall over 44,000 vehicles for faulty parts

BMW Korea, Hyundai Motor Co. and three other carmakers will recall more than 44,000 vehicles due to faulty components, the transport ministry said Thursday.

The five companies, including Honda Korea, Mercedes-Benz Korea and MAN Truck and Bus Korea Ltd., are voluntarily recalling a total of 44,281 units of 48 different models, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport said in a statement.

The problems that prompted the recall include a faulty battery wiring system in Hyundai’s Kona SX2 subcompact SUV, a faulty component in the fuel pump of Mercedes-Benz’s E350 4MATIC sedan, a faulty battery cable in Honda’s CR-V SUV and fuel filter heater problems in MAN Truck and Bus’ TGM Cargo truck, the statement said.

Vehicle owners can check the government’s homepage at www.car.go.kr or call 080-357-2500 to see if their vehicles are subject to the recall, the ministry said.
